A visit to the Lloyd George Museum is more than a visit to the Museum alone. It is an opportunity to step back in time over the threshold of Highgate, the cottage where Lloyd George was raised, to walk through the garden where he grew vegetables and there is an opportunity to reflect on your visit on the banks of afon Dwyfor, near the spot where Lloyd George decided to be laid to rest.
Discover a unique exhibition of objects that tell the story of an ordinary son who became prime minister. You will find artefacts such as caskets and finely adorned and unique scrolls that were presented to him as civic honours, such as the striking silver model of Cricieth Castle, that was presented to him by the town.
We look forward to welcoming you!
Learn how Lloyd George came to national attention as a result of a locked gate in Llanfrothen and have a look at and why did Lloyd George wear a policeman's helmet to escape an angry crowd in Birmingham.
"Dropped by the Lloyd George museum with no particular expectations or even prior knowledge. In some respects he's just some guy from a different era who made it into the history books. So what the museum does very well is to show where he came from (very humble roots) and what he achieved (an awful lot). He clearly wasn't perfect (being a philanderer) but his actions made a difference for a lot of people. The museum itself isn't huge but is packed with many relevant objects. You can also visit his childhood home with its outdoor privy. The staff are very helpful and will open it up for you. So there's plenty to take in here if you have any interest in politics or Lloyd George."
"Newly modernised and reinterpreted. Excellent 30 minute film about the life of David Lloyd George, plus interesting exhibits about the great man. Access to his grave from the rear of the museum."
